Careerist's compass. Part 2. Perhaps, you're too physically weak for a career?
- What must-have qualities are required for a career?
- Career – what is it like? Whom does it favour?
CAREERIST’S COMPASS. PART 2. PERHAPS, YOU’RE TOO PHYSICALLY WEAK FOR A CAREER?
Well, you’ve chosen your future profession. You like it and think it’s exactly what you need? Wrong!
PROFESSION IS A VERY CAPRICIOUS LADY. SHE WANTS YOU TO COME TO HER. NOT EMPTY-HANDED, BY THE WAY.
So, what to take along?
Hardiness, first of all. Career – is a life-long way and if you want to cover it all, you’ll have to train. Make it a rule to start every morning with physical exercises. The most common and available thing is jogging. Apart from this it would be great to go swimming in the evening 2 or 3 times a week. If there’s a lake or a pond somewhere around you can use it during the swimming season. Morning jogging will give you energy for the whole day, evening swimming will take the stress away. Both things will help you in making a career. You’ll also need cold training. No, no, put the buckets of icy cold water down! Start low, go slow – when taking a shower reduce the water temperature step by step.
WEATHER BEATEN PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO COPE WITH STRESSES, WHICH ARE THE PRICE OF THE CAREER ADVANCEMENT.
The next most important quality for a successful career is persistence. Suppose, you’ve started jogging, swimming, cold training and you catch a cold, your legs ache, it turns out you’re not quite a good swimmer. So you make up your mind to take a rain check on them. Congratulations, YOU’VE JUST KISSED YOUR CAREER GOODBYE! Because no matter what your profession is – a head of the department or a regular manager – you’ll have to solve problems much more difficult than jogging a couple of kilometers in the park. Can’t run? Walk! Can’t walk? Creep! Can’t creep? Lie on the ground with your head toward the goal, rest a little bit and then move on! Those postponed difficulties have got one special feature – the more time they are postponed for, the more difficult it is for you to overcome them.
There’s one very important thing about jogging – it should be continuous from the start point at your house till the end at the same point. If you face some obstacle while jogging, for instance, a car moving in your way – let it pass by switching to the jog in place. It’s also important to take care of your breath, make sure it’s deep. If you’re short of breath – make a pause, catch your breath and then move on. And please, don’t set any records! Save your energy, you’ve got a long day ahead! It’s better to run half a kilometer and come to work being fresh, than to cover 10 kilometers and to come being exhausted. Your personal record is to overcome yourself and to make physical exercises an everyday part of your life.
I’ll start on Monday.
Don’t you lie to yourself! Neither now, nor ever! Take your sports clothes out of the wardrobe immediately, get dressed and go outside! Your computer will be right there where you’ve left it, it won’t run away! It’s not early morning? It’ll be early morning tomorrow, that’s when you’ll repeat your “act of valour”! No suitable sports clothes? Go running in what you have right to the shop! There you’ll change your clothes and with a bag pickpack run back home!
AND WHAT DID YOU EXPECT ACTUALLY? DID YOU EXPECT YOUR CAREER RUN AFTER YOU? IT MIGHT CATCH UP AND SURPASS YOU IN NO TIME!
See you! I’m going for a jog! You?
